Shorr Packaging breaks ground on expanded HQ, warehouse in Aurora

AURORA - Shorr Packaging recently broke ground for the company's new corporate headquarters and warehouse in Aurora.

The company chose a location on Ferry Road between Route 59 and Eola Road in the DuPage County portion of Aurora after determining a consolidation of its three Aurora/Naperville facilities was an important project for its success in the years to come.

Development is expected to be completed in the spring of 2016, and the expansion is expected to bring more than 100 additional jobs within the next 7 years.

Shorr officials noted the expansion is being done without any tax incentives.

"I congratulate Shorr Packaging on their growing business, and thank them for their commitment to creating and sustaining jobs in our community," said U.S. Rep. Bill Foster during a recent groundbreaking attended by company and government officials. "As a businessman myself, I know how much hard work and dedication it takes to build and grow a business, and I'm proud to see Shorr doing that here in Aurora."

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren noted Shorr's long history in the community. The family-owned company was founded in 1922 and has remained in the Aurora region the entire time.

"The company's recognition as the 2015 ESOP Company of the Year by the Illinois Chapter of the ESOP Association; its expansion and the new jobs the expansion will create are accomplishments worth celebrating," Hultgren said.

Shorr Packaging CEO David Shorr added "It was almost 25 years ago to the day that we had our groundbreaking ceremony for our existing facility on Commerce Street in Aurora. We were very proud that day, just as we are today."
