View prairie flowers on savana walk in Lake Barrington

Citizens for Conservation is hosting its second season of Interactive Self-Guided Prairie Walks at Flint Creek Savanna, located at CFC's Headquarters, 459 W. Hwy. 22 in Lake Barrington.

The preserve is open free to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. the first Sunday afternoon of each month, Aug. 2 and Sept. 6.

The walk on Aug. 2 will feature wildflowers on the prairie, patches of lavender Monarda or Bergamot and maybe, if you're lucky, a grazing monarch flitting by.

The walk on Sept. 6 will feature the prairie at its best, with many different colors of Asters and possibly some rare gentians hiding among the grasses.

Be sure to wear good hiking shoes. Bring your cellphone with a scan app to access the videos by restoration experts along the trail.
