School series gave some insight

I very much enjoyed reading the articles describing the poverty and income correlation in Illinois schools. Spending the effort and the funds to investigate and write about a "Generation at Risk," must have taken a lot of courage on your editorial board.

It is uplifting to see a media outlet delve deep into a topic and make it educational and informative. I learned a substantial amount of information on the challenges facing many of the schools in the Illinois educational system from reading the four articles of your series.

Your information gave me the insight that educating those from lower levels of the income scale takes greater effort and more funding than needed in the schools which educated my children. I will always carry with me the new understanding which I gained from your reporting on the subject.

I would hope that our political leaders read your articles. Our elected officials need to understand that the "free market" will not solve our educational difficulties. We need a plan which the principals in Sunny Hill, Avon and Tefft schools have created. You in your writing gave light to three strategies. Thank you.
