"A rescue vehicle for the Rolling Meadows Fire Department was purchased last fall for a token $600 payment. The 1948 Ford Truck, part of the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol, contained a two-way radio, siren, bell and tools which were added inhalators, portable generator, floodlights, smoke ejector and ladders. "One of the hottest locales for the 25 million square feet of suburban office space continues to be the Woodfield area. A recent addition to the marketplace, Continental Towers, in Rolling Meadows, will have three 12-story buildings when completed and boast one million square feet of office space. "A bird's-eye view of the Crossroads of Commerce office complex in Rolling Meadows shows its proximity to Ill. Rte. 53. The second 10-story tower is scheduled for occupancy in November (1979.) Developer Roy Gottlieb is seeking tenants for the new building and hopes to attract them with promises of tennis courts, a jogging path, membership to the Holiday Inn Holidome and quality construction. In addition two school crossing guards work with the police department. A total of 67, 870 miles were patrolled by the force during 1956, with 8,438 radio calls received. Shown before their 1958 American-LaFrance pumpers, Rolling Meadows firemen posed for their first "official" portrait. flanking their men are department officials attired in white shirts and hats: Vic Schrock, Clarence Dahm, fire Chief Tom Fagarty, Bert Trager Richard Zmich and Ed Kotlarz. the men served for 1½ years before even receiving gasoline money for answering calls, contributing their time and efforts to the completion of the city fire building, and raising funds through their annual fire carnival, maintenance of equipment and training sessions. "Glowing brightly at night, the Rolling Meadows fire station stands out as a landmark for the city. The open doors are symbolic of the welcome firemen will extend to visitors Sunday afternoon and evening, when they will conduct tours of the newly enlarged building and display vehicles which help guard the city's residents. The facilities now offer adequate bays for the trucks, a repair area and radio room, plus quarters for the firemen and a hall which will be available for civil use." Dec. 3, 1964.
