Speak out against truck terminal
On July 13, the Grayslake planning commission/zoning board meets to discuss the rezoning for the proposed truck docking terminal being prepared on Peterson Road. How was this dock approved in the first place, near a gymnastics complex, a bike path, and three subdivisions?
What happened to compatible zoning? Mundelein residents should attend this meeting at the Grayslake Village Hall, 7 p.m., 10 South Seymour in Grayslake, to voice concern about this misbegotten idea.
The berm being bulldozed and landscaped might hide the trucks from view, but it will not eliminate the constant idling, nor hide the security lights that will destroy our dark nights, or the pollution that will choke our children and burn our eyes.
Have you ever driven behind one of those trucks on the road? Imagine smelling that all the time. And what about the dangerous truck increase on Midlothian, along the bike path and past subdivisions, an elementary school, rec center, library, and fire department, clogging the street and requiring our Mundelein tax dollars to repair the damage? And you know darn well they will use Midlothian!
There are plenty of other types of development that would be more appropriate to the neighborhood. The choice of this particular business shows a blatant disregard for the people. Make the system work for us, the people, and not just the corporations with big bucks.
I urge not only Mundelein residents, but our representatives to send up a loud and legal cry to stop this travesty. Go to the meeting at the Grayslake Village Hall on July 13 and let your voice be heard against the required rezoning for SAIA to proceed.
If Grayslake wants a truck dock so bad, why don't they put it within their own borders, maybe on the empty Old Fairgrounds?
