Plenty of food, music to sample at Greek Fest

Ethnic music, dancing and food - lots of food - were the highlights of Lake County Greek Fest at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Libertyville.

The annual fest, which opened Friday, continues through Sunday at the church at 400 N. O'Plaine Road.

A selection of Greek food including such entrees as roast leg of lamb, souvlakia (grilled pork shish-kebabs), Athenian chicken, gyros, spanakopita (spinach pie) and tyropita (cheese pie) is available, along with treats such as saganaki (breaded cheese served on fire) and loukaniko (sausage grilled to bursting), and an array of Greek pastries including baklava.

There's also games for children and entertainment in the form of traditional Greek music and dancing. Guests can tour the church with its fifth century Byzantine design.

Admission and parking are free. For details, call (224) 513-5530 or visit www.saintdemetrioslibertyville.com.
