2 to be interviewed for Batavia council post

Two people will be interviewed Tuesday night to fill a vacancy on the Batavia City Council.

Paula Mueller, of Delia Street, and Daniel Czuprynski, of Orion Road, are the candidates to represent the 4th Ward.

Alderman Jamie Saam resigned in June to become the executive director of Batavia MainStreet.

Mueller is an interior decorator, and works for Gibby's Wine Den store in Geneva. According to her letter of application, she has lived in Batavia for 15 years. She volunteers at the Center for Breast Health at Delnor Hospital, belongs to the Kiwanis, and has done volunteer work at the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry's Clothes Closet.

Czuprynski has lived in Batavia for 20 years. According to his letter, he has served as an election judge, youth baseball coach and a Boy Scout leader. His work experience includes construction project management.

The city council will interview Mueller and Czuprynski in open session during a committee of the whole meeting that begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Batavia Government Center. They will then make a recommendation to Mayor Jeff Schielke, who will appoint and swear-in the new alderman July 20.

The new alderman will serve through April 2017.

It is the second time this year the council has had to pick a replacement. Kevin Botterman joined as a 5th Ward alderman in February, replacing Steve Vasilion.
