Samardzija, Chicago White Sox showing signs of life
Maybe the Chicago White Sox aren't dead yet.
Already tagged as likely sellers as the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline nears, the Sox' only hope of keeping the band together is playing good baseball.
The White Sox continued doing that Thursday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0.
Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija - the subject of multiple trade rumors - sparked the Sox' seventh win in nine games by pitching a complete-game shutout.
The right-hander allowed 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts. The Jays didn't have a hit off Samardzija (6-4) until Ryan Goins singled to right field with one out in the sixth inning.
Adam Eaton tripled off Toronto starter R.A. Dickey leading off the bottom of the sixth and came home on catcher Russell Martin's passed ball.
Melky Cabrera followed with a solo home run as the White Sox won 3 of 4 from Toronto.
Check back later for more details on Samardzija and the Sox.
