Poverty devastating to child's future

Looks like I am late to the party, with 1,657 online comments already, but I would like to congratulate the Daily Herald and its fine reporters for the insightful series of articles highlighting the strong correlation between poverty and achievement among our students.

The Poverty Achievement Index finally factored in the effects of poverty, helping folks to appreciate how devastating it can be to a child's future. I was fascinated to learn of the innovative, creative and persistent approaches by educators and parents to transcend the economic limitations of students' lives.

Although a stretch for the focus of these articles, the ultimate solution is to see improvements in the economic situations for their families.
