Introducing TBT, a new photo column highlighting the history of the suburbs

To our Readers,

We've been a part of Chicago's suburbs for 143 years, and one of the benefits of such a deeply rooted connection is that we have a sense of the history here.

We also have a sense for how much most of our readers care about that history and the texture it provides for all of us who live here.

So let me introduce TBT, an acronym popularized by Twitter's and now Facebook's Throwback Thursday habit.

Each Thursday, we'll share a photo from our archives or one loaned from an area historical society, or one, perhaps, from you.

We'll publish it on the Back Page along with an explanation of the history it represents.

If you want to see more photos on that week's topic, you can go to dailyherald.com/tbt, where you'll find a whole gallery of them.

You can even share them on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram if you like. Be our guest.

For now, please check out the introductory TBT on today's Back Page on the beginnings of the Mundelein Police Department.

We hope you enjoy the new feature. Please offer topic ideas by emailing us at tbt@dailyherald.com — or even email old photos (along with an explanation, and ID any people if you can) to consider for the column.

As always, thanks for reading.
