Elgin RFC presents Rugby Illinois State 7s Championship

Elgin Rugby Football Club is bringing the state championships to Elgin this weekend! There will be individual player competitions starting Friday night and Saturday will start the team matches. This event is open to the public and there is no admission fee.

The individual player competitions will be Friday, July 10, in the park area, just north of the Hemmens Auditorium, 45 Symphony Way in downtown Elgin. Competitions include: drop goal kicking, kick for distance, passing accuracy and fastest rugger.

The Rugby Illinois Sevens Championship will be held Saturday, July 11, on the fields adjacent to Kimball Middle School, 451 N. McLean Blvd. in Elgin. These matches will be divided in three categories: Boys High School 7s, Girls High School 7s and Middle School 7s.

"Elgin Rugby is very excited to host this championship. Teams will see what Elgin has to offer and Elgin will see the best that Illinois Youth Rugby has to offer," said Rob Copland, Elgin Rugby Football Club head coach. "In the end, we hope the tournament increases awareness for the city's fastest growing sport and generates interest in the game of rugby."

Come out and cheer on the teams and individual competitors as they play to win the championship!
