Arts in Bartlett to Start Children's Choir

Arts in Bartlett, the local arts council, will host a children's choir class for those entering 2nd through 8th grade at the Bartlett Center for the Arts, 215 S. Main Street in Town Center on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m. from July 16 to August 20. The final date will be a concert for family members.

"This class is the beginning of what we hope will develop into an ongoing opportunity for area children to sing in a group, and maybe even develop into a performing group," said Cecilia Green, director of the Center for the Arts.

The choir will be under the direction of Mindy Dupee, local voice and piano teacher. She previously led a children's choir for a Therapeutic Day School and has sung with the Elgin Choral Union for four years . Her professional training was at University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and Illinois State University and she is a Board Certified Music Therapist.

" Choir members will learn the basics of proper breathing technique, body positioning and tonal reproduction," Dupee said. "They will learn, prepare and present a selection of music in single and two-part harmony." Program fees of $80 for Arts in Bartlett family members or $100 for nonmembers is payable on the first day of class.

For questions about the program, contact Mindy Dupee at 847-924-3331 or dapiano2@gmail.com or art@artsinbartlett.org, 630 372 4152.
