Bryant powers Chicago Cubs past Marlins

Rookie third baseman Kris Bryant hit a pair of home runs, including a second-inning grand slam, to help lift the Chicago Cubs to a 7-2 victory Saturday night over the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field.

Bryant hit a 2-run homer, a monster shot to left field, in the first inning off Jarred Cosart. He hit a drive to left for his grand slam in the second. Bryant has 12 home runs for the season and 2 grand slams. He became the first Cubs rookie since Billy Williams in 1961 to hit 2 grand slams in one season.

The Cubs got a good effort from starting pitcher Clayton Richard, obtained Friday in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Making his first major-league start since 2013 while with the Padres, Richard went 6⅓ innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs.
