Saturday's Libertyville Days parade is one of the many highlights of the village's annual festival, which runs through the weekend.
The parade, which stepped off from the Metra train station and headed south along Milwaukee Avenue to Rockland Road, is one of Lake County's largest and most spectacular. It featured marching bands, Shriner groups, clowns, horses and more.
The Libertyville Days Festival is organized by the Libertyville Civic Center Foundation with help from members of the Junior Women's Club, Lions Club and Knights of Columbus who donate thousands of volunteer hours each year in support of the Libertyville Civic Center. Proceeds from last year's festival were used for building improvements to the Civic Center.
Honoring heroes of all types, from Superheroes to real ones, "Festival of Heroes" is the theme of this year's festival. Highlights include carnival rides, food vendors, a beer garden, children's party, Lions of Illinois Hearing Bus, caricatures and easel art, root beer making, cookie bake off, a fireman's rib cook off and more.
