Taxes should be cut, then frozen
I write in response to the guest view of Mr. Weppler published on June 12. A well written article, very comprehensive, full of demagoguery and he just doesn't get the point.
Taxpayers in Illinois are sick of paying some of the highest taxes in the nation, due in large part to public sector unions. Unions contribute an additional 25 percent increase to anything they touch. It is high time village presidents, mayors, the state legislators and school boards stand up to these unions and represent taxpayers.
Why should a minority of the population (public sector unions), dictate taxes for the majority? It is high time that public sector pensions such as the IMRF be converted to a 401 wherein they contribute completely to their pensions and get off the backs of taxpayers.
All of government can and should be reduced by a minimum of 10 percent, including their pay. Mr. Weppler is right on his main point, property taxes should not be frozen. They should be cut, and then frozen.
