Batavia helping storm victims
Batavia is offering to help with the cost of disposing of items damaged by water from Monday's storm.
It will give up to 10 trash stickers to people who can prove they suffered such damage, according to a news release from the city.
People will need to prove the damage in one of two ways:
1. If, before June 18, they told the city about the flooding event, including messages to city offices, employees or aldermen, or can show they posted a complaint on social media sites.
2. Or, beginning June 18 and following, they can provide evidence of damage, such as receipts for pump rental, Dumpster service, photographs of damage to interior to homes (including basements) or personal property.
The stickers can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in the Utility Billing office on the second floor of the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave. They can also be picked up from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the public works department, 200 N. Raddant Road. The stickers, which normally cost $2.98, are available through July 6.
For more information, call the public works department at (630) 454-2300.
