Arrieta wild in Cubs' loss

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta was uncharacteristically wild Tuesday night, and the Cleveland Indians defeated the Cubs 6-0 at Wrigley Field.

Arrieta lasted only 5 innings has he threw 112 pitches. He gave up 3 hits and 4 runs. The Indians took a 3-0 lead in the third on a 3-run home run by Carlos Santana.

The two teams will move on to Cleveland for a two-game series beginning Wednesday night.

Before the game, the Cubs selected the contract of top prospect Kyle Schwarber from Class AA Tennessee. Schwarber got into the game as a catcher in the ninth inning after starter Miguel Montero was ejected after the top of the eighth. He was called out on strikes in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Cubs plan to use Schwarber as the DH in American League parks at Cleveland and Minnesota in the coming days. After the weekend, they plan to send him to Class AAA Iowa so he can continue his development behind the plate.
