Palatine Kiwanis Scholarship Honorees Announced

At its June 8 meeting the Palatine Kiwanis Club presented scholarship checks to two recent District 211 graduates. Joseph LaBreck and Margaret Hanna each received a $2000 scholarship from the club. Joe, a Palatine High School grad, and Maggie, of Fremd, were selected by their schools for the awards because of their outstanding records of community service and good citizenship. Their parents also attended the presentation ceremony. Kiwanis president Jim Sindelar, a retired Palatine High School counselor, hosted the event.

The Scholarships have been an annual project of the Palatine Kiwanis Club in memory of two outstanding founding members of the club, Dr. Edward Laskowski and Ronald Hunter, who were instrumental in guiding the club's efforts to promote service to the Palatine community and the disadvantaged children and residents of the area.
