Graduates had all the class
Graduation 2015 showcased some of the most intelligent, advanced and freethinking students of our time. District 128 at Vernon Hills High School on June 4 was no exception. I of course am the proud father of one of the graduates. I am very proud of my son as well as the Class of 2015.
I am not so proud of the crowd, made up of the graduates' friends and family. Shrill whistling, catcalls, with actual screaming tainted the entire process. A formal event that should have had at least a modicum of respect and professionalism was turned into a near circus.
Many staff administrators also showed a lack of class. District 128 Superintendent Prentiss Lea gave a speech that showed how not to give a speech. On and on he spoke, using near identical adjectives freely throughout his presentation and showing his poor grasp of the English language, in my humble opinion.
What should have been a fantastic and rewarding ceremony was reduced to a fiasco by District 128's leaders.
Graduates, be proud despite what happened around you the evening of June 4.
