Palatine kicks off free summer concert series June 12

Audial Sunshine, Fremd High School's advanced female A Cappella group, will take the stage at Towne Square in downtown Palatine tonight, as part of the Palatine Park District's 28th annual Sounds of Summer free concert series that gets underway this week.

The series, which takes place at Towne Square and the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, also will feature suburban favorites American English and 7th heaven, along with Palatine-based musicians and artists.

Founded in 2006, the members of Audial Sunshine perform a variety of different styles, including pop, rhythm & blues, jazz, musical theater, and country. The group is an advanced, audition-based ensemble, and tryouts are open to girls in all grades at Fremd.

The group will offer the first performance of the Towne Square Spotlight portion of the concert series, which highlights local musical talents. Later performances at Towne Part will feature the Allegro Adult Choir (June 25); Harper College Jazz Lab Band (July 16); Summer Strings Orchestra (July 23); and Musical Theatre Night (Aug. 6).

All performances begin at 6:30 p.m. at Towne Square, 150 W. Palatine Road.

The summer concert series continues at 8 p.m. Friday with a performance by American English, a premier Beatles tribute band, at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road. The band has won wide acclaim for its performances, including Illinois Entertainer of the Year, and has been voted "Best Tribute Band" three of the last four years by their fans in the Chicago area.
