Elgin man sentenced to 8 years for selling heroin
A 32-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to selling heroin to an Elgin undercover police officer several times earlier this year.
In exchange for pleading guilty to the manufacture and delivery of heroin, Angelo Hopson of Elgin was sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to pay $2,229 in fines.
Hopson, who authorities said has several felony convictions, received credit for 72 days in custody.
Hopson sold heroin to the police officer in amounts ranging from 0.9 grams to 1.5 grams between Jan. 14 and 29, prosecutors said during Hopson's April bond hearing.
At the time of his arrest, Hopson had 22 plastic bags in his mouth that were empty but had contained heroin, prosecutors said.
