Cubs take Cincinnati OF Happ in first round

The Chicago Cubs selected outfielder Ian Happ with the ninth overall pick in the first round of Monday night's amateur baseball draft.

Happ is a switch hitter out of the University of Cincinnati. This marks the fifth year in a row the Cubs have selected a position player with their first-round pick. The signing-bonus slot for this pick is $3,351,000.

The Cubs also had the 47th pick in Monday's portion of the draft.
