Step aside, Madigan, and give Rauner's reforms a chance

Gov. Rauner was elected to effect change. His turnaround agenda is the road map to recovery. Speaker Madigan is the roadblock.

On a recent WBBM interview, Madigan said he will work with the governor as long as Rauner is reasonable. In Madigan-Speak, "reasonable" is anything matching only his opinion.

How about the rest of the General Assembly? How about the rest of the citizens of Illinois?

Madigan says we should not do anything to hurt us, the middle class, implying that the governor's reforms would do just that. Rauner's turnaround agenda is all about jobs - jobs for the middle class.

it is all about making Illinois more competitive, attracting companies to locate here, or at least not leave. Rauner's plan is all about increasing tax revenue by getting more people employed, rather than increasing taxes on the declining working population.

Blocking these reforms, Madigan seems more concerned about the political class. I met with Gov. Rauner in mid-April. His tireless efforts to improve our state are inspiring.

We have big problems in Illinois, and Gov. Rauner is prepared to grab the bull by the horns, while Madigan continues to force feed us the stuff from the other end. Madigan, part of the problem since 1970, continues to waste time playing politics and performing political theatrics instead of fixing our broken state.

Maybe Madigan doesn't know what we want. We need to tell him - and the rest of the General Assembly, when you're done reading the paper, please:

1) read the turnaround agenda (www.illinois.gov);

2) decide for yourself to support it or not;

3) Email your state representative and state senator; and,

4) mail hard copies of those emails to Rauner, Cullerton and Madigan so everyone is in the loop.

It may be the best $1.47 you've ever spent!
