Don't mess with our two garbage pickups

Unfortunately, two of our recently re-elected trustees feel they received a mandate to reduce a service that most residents of Arlington Heights value and enjoy - twice weekly trash pickup.

I believe the village has done a fine job of securing trash hauling contracts. However, these costs are borne solely by the citizens who choose to use the service, this is not a tax-supported service. A change in this policy should be decided by the residents, not the village board.

Arlington Heights residents pay some of the highest taxes in the entire state. Perhaps our local representatives could devote more of their energy into more efficiently controlling the use of our tax dollars that are directly under their review.
