Doesn't want trash pickups to change
I am writing in regard to the article in the May 19 Daily Herald about elimination of twice weekly pickup.
About every four years this matter comes up. I am in favor of the twice weekly pickup for the following reasons.
A: Leaving the garbage laying around for a week could cause the following issues: Smell, the growth of maggots, animals tearing up the bags and the lack of possible storage space.
B: Wear and tear on the roads is a moot point. No matter if it is weekly or bi-weekly the same volume of trash will be generated by the households of Arlington Heights. The trucks will have to be loaded heavier causing more wear and tear on the roads. Using the same logic why not discontinue the recycle and yard waste pickups as well?
C: The issue of cost savings to the citizens by elimination of the extra pickup. In past years this added a cost of approximately $2 to $3 per month. Let me ask you this. Nowadays where can you get anyone to come to your home for such a minor cost?
Maintaining this service helps Arlington Heights stand out above all the other suburbs and is a nice perk when selling your home.
