Wheeling man who was shot pleads guilty to weapons charge

A Wheeling teenager found in a parked car with a gunshot wound to his groin has pleaded guilty to felony weapon possession.

In exchange for his guilty plea to the class two felony, Kevin Trujillo, 19, of the 100 block of Chariot Road, was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay $789 in fines, according to court records.

Police found Trujillo sitting in a car wounded shortly after midnight on April 19. They took him to a hospital for treatment, prosecutors said.

Police recovered ammunition from Trujillo's pockets, which lead to the weapons charge, prosecutors said. They did not find a gun, and it was not clear who shot him, prosecutors said during Trujillo's bond hearing.

Trujillo, who prosecutors say was on bond for a 2013 conviction for DUI, received credit for 47 days in custody, court records show.
