Elgin man faces attempted murder charge stemming from May shooting

A Kane County judge set bail at $1.5 million Sunday for a 23-year-old man arrested Saturday in connection with a shooting in Elgin last month that left a man seriously injured with a gunshot wound.

Victor Rivera, of Elgin, faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm stemming from the May 27 shooting outside a residence in the 0-100 block of DuBois Avenue.

Rivera was arrested about 5:15 p.m. Saturday in the area of Watch Street and Watch Court in Elgin, culminating an extensive investigation conducted over the past week by its detective divisions, Elgin police said.

Police on Sunday did not release any additional details on the circumstances of the shooting or the 33-year-old victim. Authorities previously said the crime was not a random act or gang-related.

Rivera also is charged with one count of possession/manufacture of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and one count of possession of a controlled substance stemming from a separate investigation by the department's gang and drug units, police said.

The shooting investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with any information the department's Major Investigations unit at (847) 289-2600. Individuals also can provide anonymous tips or information via the crime line at (847) 695-4195 or texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message.
