Popeyes replaces White Castle at River and Rand in Des Plaines

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is moving in where White Castle moved out near River and Rand roads in Des Plaines.

The fast food chicken eatery will open in a one-story, 2,520-square-foot building at 435 S. River Road, which has been vacant for more than a year after White Castle closed.

The city council this week approved a conditional use permit that allows the new restaurant and drive-through to open.

"This is a great thing that we are going to be filling that empty building," said 1st Ward Alderman Patti Haugeberg, whose ward includes the restaurant.
