Listen to 'New American Folk' music at concert

As part of the "Music in the Gallery" series, award-winning songwriter Julie Patchouli and master guitarist Bruce Hecksel offer their "New American Folk," a mix of folk, pop, flamenco and jazz with world beat rhythms, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, in the gallery of Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road, St. Charles.

Hecksel currently has 56 original paintings on exhibit through July 12 in the Norris Gallery. It is featuring for the first time his "LOVE THIS" series where every element of the painting is composed of hearts.

Many of the signature "Terra Guitarra" pieces and the original artwork from the "Firelight" album hang in the gallery and create a colorful and musical stage backdrop for the concerts in the gallery.

The Norris' first season of "Music in the Gallery" concludes with a concert by the up-and-coming Ask Your Folks, who will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28. Tickets are $15 or $10 for children under 12.

This Chicago-based Appalachian bluegrass and funk trio features guitar, fiddle and string bass players who began performing together during their freshman year at DePaul University.

In 2013, they started playing together as Ask Your Folks. Trained in a variety of styles, each member has brought aspects of favorite genres to the group, resulting in a blend of bluegrass, jazz, Appalachian folk, and funk.
