Invite butterflies to your yard this season

Summer is coming, and so are butterflies!

Whether you offer a single planter or a whole prairie, you can easily attract these beautiful creatures to your yard.

Join "Everybody Loves Butterflies" at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd. on Elgin's east side.

Learn how to garden for each stage of a butterfly's life cycle and how to entice a variety of species to make your garden home.

You also will learn tips for identifying a few of the most common butterfly visitors and briefly look at the current status of monarch butterfly population.

The presenter Janie Grillo grew up in a family of gardeners and now works for a local plant nursery. She has raised butterflies for 14 years and has tagged monarch butterflies for Monarch Watch since 2002. She also designed and coordinated a butterfly garden at an equine-assisted therapy facility.

No registration is required for this program, so come on down to enhance your garden and check out the new "Butterfly" exhibit.
