Join dedications of Douglas and Trillium parks Saturday

On Saturday, June 6, the City of Elgin along with several partner organizations will be hosting ribbon-cutting ceremonies at Douglas and Trillium parks.

The playground at Douglas Park at 261 Douglas Ave. was recently replaced by the city with funding received from a Community Development Block Grant. The ribbon cutting ceremony, which will take place at 10:30 a.m., will include light refreshments.

The park dedication, which will take place at noon and include a light lunch, will be hosted by the Elgin Community Network. The park at 319 Illinois Ave. was developed through the efforts of the Neighborhood Housing Services, the Ellis Middle School Science NERDS, Elgin Community Network, the city of Elgin and many neighborhood volunteers.

"Trillium Park is a great example of what can happen when residents, students and partner organizations combine forces to bring about a positive change to our community," stated Mayor Dave Kaptain. "Through everyone's coordinated efforts Trillium Park has been transformed from a blighted parcel to a beautiful park where neighbors can gather and connect with nature."
