Ikes invite you to 'Fish for Fun' Saturday

When was the last time you took your children or grandchildren fishing? Well, here is your chance!

With help from the Elgin Chapter of Izaak Walton League of America, the Fish for Fun Fishing Derby will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive, Elgin.

The event features a free fishing derby for youth, age 15 or younger. It is sponsored by Ziegler Ace Hardware.

Awards are presented for the largest catch in each fish category.

The first 50 participants will receive a goodie bag and all attending will get a chance to win some of the raffle prizes of fishing equipment and gift cards from Ziegler's Ace Hardware.

Youth must be accompanied by an adult and on-site registration is required. Adults do not need a fishing license as it is Free Fishing weekend in Illinois. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing pole and gear to the event. There will be a limited number of fishing poles on hand to use during the event, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
