Students Shine at State Science Fair

Ten seventh grade students from St. Peter Lutheran School in Arlington Heights participated in the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Science Fair held on Saturday, May 2 at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. They qualified to participate after placing in the top category at the Regional Science Fair held in March. At the State competition, students have their log books reviewed and give an oral presentation to the panel of judges. Mr. Paul Piel, Middle School Science teacher, offered this advice to his students, "Enjoy the opportunity to present and have fun!" St. Peter students earned nine Gold Awards and one Silver Award in the competition. In addition, Ken Granell's project, "Does Stainless Steel Remove Food Odors from Your Hands?" won Best in Category in the Junior Division (Middle School Division) for his project in the area of Materials Science. Congratulations to Mark Antonetti, Nick Buckner, Mark Graham, Ken Granell, Holly Hanssen, Jasmine Luethy, Cade Milligan, Luke Picchiotti, Trevor Schutz, and Hannah Van Meveren who represented St. Peter.
