Listening tours good for transportation goals

On May 19, the Illinois Department of Transportation and Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn led a listening session held at Waukegan City Hall. The session was well attended by residents as well as leaders from area public and private entities.

One of the key topics discussed was the need to develop a sustainable revenue stream as the continued use of a capital program funded by bonds is not sustainable.

I, like Secretary Blankenhorn, believe "transportation should be fixed for a generation, not for a limited number of years." I appreciate the opportunity to openly discuss the future transportation needs of North Chicago and the proactive approach taken and sincerely hope these tours will achieve the results needed for local units of government.

Leon Rockingham Jr., Mayor
