214@100: Everyone wins with FCCLA

Family Community Career Leaders of America is a successful student-run organization at Rolling Meadows High School. In 2013 alone, students arrived home from the sectional competition with six Most Outstanding awards, 12 gold and silver medals and three bronze.

However, this organization has made a much larger impact beyond winning. FCCLA has created fundraisers and donated the proceeds to nonprofits, and provided blankets for premature babies at Northwest Community Hospital.

FCCLA's adviser, Kimmi Drendel, explained the organization's positive influence. "I've never seen FCCLA make a bad impact," she said. "FCCLA is a really good support system. We have over 60 members and everyone ends up being friends."
