Stevenson rolls in postseason opener

Stevenson 14, Vernon Hills 2: In a Class 4A baseball regional opener at Vernon Hills on Monday, the Stevenson offense exploded for 12 hits, which made the Patriots' 4 errors less impactful.

Willie Bourbon hit a home run for Stevenson and drove in 3 runs. Jack Cappalli went 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 doubles while Jimmy Marchese added 2 hits and 2 RBI. Carter Baretz also had 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Kevin Chapman gave up just 1 hit over four innings. He also had 4 strikeouts.

Grayslake North 2, Deerfield 1: In a regional opener, Deerfield broke open a tie game by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Knights rolled up 11 hits. George Deligiannis, Alex Carrillo and Brendan Taskovic each had 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Patrick Schaefer went the distance and allowed just 1 walk.
