Buffalo Grove 17, Round Lake 7 (5 inn.): Buffalo Grove brought its bats to Monday's Class 4A playoff baseball opener, producing 14 hits in a 17-7 victory over visiting Round Lake that took five innings to settle.
Trey Cervantes hit a homer, finishing 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, and John Carpinelli had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs.
Dan Levato doubled and drove in 3 runs, and Brian Moran tripled and drove in 2.
The Bison (16-20) spread the workload among five pitchers, with Adam Apel getting the victory.
Buffalo Grove advances to a regional semifinal matchup at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against host Glenbrook South.
Hoffman Estates 5, Wheaton North 1: Ryan Ward pitched the Hawks into a Wednesday regional semifinal matchup against Willowbrook by limiting the Falcons a first-inning run.
Ward pitched a complete-game 5-hitter, striking out four and walking one.
Brandon Harris led an 11-hit attack for Hoffman Estates (15-13) with 3 hits, and freshman Dylan Bloom connected on a 2-run double in the first inning.
• Rolling Meadows' scheduled game at Glenbard East was postponed; they try again at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
• Wheeling's regional quarterfinal against Highland Park was suspended in the top of the 4th inning, with Highland Park leading 10-1. They will try to complete the contest Tuesday.
