Police release photo of suspected Arlington Hts. sunglasses thief

Police have released an image of a man they say stole two pairs of Gucci-brand sunglasses, valued $350 each, from an Arlington Heights glasses store earlier this month.

Sgt. Chuck Buczynski said the suspect, who is described as a 40-year-old black male around 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds, stole the glasses at about 5:35 p.m. May 4,

"It was a theft by diversion," Buczynski said. "He knocked over displays and while the employees were focusing on picking everything up he walked out with the sunglasses."

Buczynski said it was only after the man left that employees noticed the designer sunglasses missing.

Police are hoping members of the public can help identify the man based on the security camera footage. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call (847) 368-5300 and ask to speak with Detective Jasper.
