Oil spill shuts down part of Rt. 59 in Barrington

An oil spill shut down a portion of Route 59 in Barrington for more than six hours Tuesday, authorities said.

A semi-truck that broke down on Route 59 at Hillside Avenue about 10:30 a.m. leaked so much motor oil that it caused the thoroughfare to be closed for most of the day while a cleaning company worked to remove the oil, according to the Barrington Fire Department.

The street was reopened by 5 p.m.
