Danks, White Sox roll to fourth straight win
It's all starting to come together for the White Sox.
Continuing to emerge from a forgettable start Saturday night at Oakland, the Sox rebounded from a 2-0 deficit and beat the A's 4-3.
The White Sox (16-17) have won four straight games, and they've won four straight series for the first time since August of 2013.
Give John Danks big credit for the latest victory.
With three left-handers already ahead of Danks in the starting rotation - Chris Sale, Jose Quintana and rookie Carlos Rodon - guess who Baseball America is projecting the Sox to pick No. 7 overall in next month's draft?
Illinois ace Tyler Jay, a lefty starter.
The pressure is obviously on Danks, but the 30-year-old veteran came through again at Oakland, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.
In his previous start, Danks allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 7 innings against the Reds at U.S. Cellular Field.
Danks has scrapped the windup and is pitching out of the stretch at all times to iron out kinks in his delivery. He's also sped up his move to the plate and the adjustments have been working.
"We've been trying to do certain things just to give me a better chance," Danks said after his start against Cincinnati. "Messing up timing's one of them. I think it's very effective. We're going to continue to work on things but it's basically doing whatever you've got to do to get that guy out.
"I think over the course of my career, when I'm feeling good and getting it and going I think things work better for me that way."
After the A's took the early lead on Billy Butler's home run in the first inning, the White Sox tied the game at 2 in the third on Avisail Garcia's 2-run single off Oakland starter Jesse Chavez.
Garcia was 3-for-3 with a walk, raising his batting average to .336.
Melky Cabrera (3-for-5) put the Sox in front 3-2 in the seventh inning with a run-scoring single, and Jose Abreu followed with an RBI double.
White Sox closer David Robertson, who sat out Friday night's 7-6 win over the Athletics to get some rest, pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings to pick up his eighth save.
