Elgin grad Perryman finalist for DII Player of Year

Elgin High graduate Hannah Perryman, now a junior at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, is one of three finalists for the inaugural Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II Softball Player of the Year.

Perryman has already been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year as well as the Daktronics, Inc., Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year.

Going into Friday's NCAA Midwest Super Regional against the University of Indianapolis, Perryman is 29-3 with a 1.13 ERA. Opponents are hitting a paltry .125 against her and she has 17 shutouts, including five straight for the top-ranked team in the country in Division II. She has recorded an NCAA record seven perfect games this season, a DII record which also ties her for the all-divisions NCAA record with Cat Osterman (Texas) and Rachel Johnson (DIII Rockhurst).

Perryman has averaged 13.1 strikeouts per seven innings in helping her team to a 47-6 record.

The National Player of the Year trophy will be presented next Wednesday prior to the national championship tournament in Oklahoma City. The other finalists are North Georgia junior pitcher Courtney Poole and Augustana (S.D.) senior pitcher/utility Jenelle Trautmann.

UMSL hosts the Super Regional, a best-of-three series with the winner advancing to the DII World Series in Oklahoma City beginning May 21.
