Fox Trot to take step back with '60s rock theme

The city of Elgin's 38th annual Elgin Valley Fox Trot has received its certification by the USA Track & Field Organization for its 10-mile and 5K courses.

The courses for the event begin in downtown Elgin at Kimball Street and Douglas Avenue, and take participants through beautiful historic neighborhoods and the winding hills and ravines around Lords Park.

The races start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23. The post-race party will kick off with music from The New Invaders to compliment this year's rock 'n' roll theme. The 1960s flashback band will entertain participants with music "from Brit Rock to Woodstock."

In addition, Elgin has once again earned its Chicago Area Runners Association endorsement for the Fox Trot. Due to the endorsement, registration discounts will be offered to CARA members. The Fox Trot was selected to be part of CARA's 2015 competitive circuit of races, named the Runners' Choice Circuit. CARA members can compete on this circuit for year-end awards in various categories.

Registration is now available at www.cityofelgin.org/foxtrot.

The fee through May 17 is $45 for the 10-mile run and $35 for the 5K race. In-person registration on May 22 and 23 will be $55 for the 10-mile run and $40 for the 5K. Cash prizes will be awarded for top runners. Please refer to the event website for further information and to view racecourses. Visit www.cityofelgin.org/foxtrot.
