Hoffman powers a Fremd win at Schaumburg
Fremd got off to a strong start in the Schaumburg girls water polo sectional Wednesday, delivering a 10-2 victory against Rolling Meadows.
Emma Hoffman scored 4 goals and Nicole Warnstedt had 2 as the Vikings and goalie Emma Jeronimus prevented any scoring by the Mustangs until the fourth quarter.
Friday's semifinals in the Schaumburg sectional will feature Conant vs. Schaumburg at 4:30 p.m., and Fremd vs. Prospect at 5:45 p.m.
• Schaumburg Hannah Pearson scored twice and Danielle Grubb, Britney Vasquez, Clair Lynch and Renata Varga had 1 each to help the Saxons to a 7-5 victory over Barrington in Schaumburg sectional play.
Mia Latimer provided the bulk of the scoring for Barrington with 4 goals.
• Carmen Rosas (7 goals) and Emily Weingart (3) led the way as top-seeded Conant advanced with a 15-3 victory over Elk Grove in the Schamburg sectional.
• Danielle McCallister (5 goals), Niki Neumann (4) and Gracie Dix (4) led the way as Prospect advanced in Schaumburg sectional action with a 15-7 decision over Hersey. Lauren Broz stopped 12 shots for Prospect, including a penalty shot.
Katie Lutz paced the Huskies with 3 goals.
• Caroline Wojtas (5 goals), Caitlin McHugh, Mathilde Mogensen and Kristin Anderson (1 goal each) provided the offense as No. 2 seed Palatine topped sectional host Buffalo Grove 8-2. Tess O'Brien stopped 13 shots for the Pirates.
No. 3 seed Wheeling rolled past Libertyville 18-7, setting up a semifinal between Palatine and the Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. Friday. Top seed Stevenson will meet No. 4 Lake Forest in the 4:30 p.m. matchup.
• Emily Morrison scored 5 goals to help fifth-seeded Maine West oust fourth-seeded Maine South 13-11 in the Glenbrook North sectional. The Warriors advance to a 4:30 p.m. Friday semifinal against top seed New Trier.
