Naperville to host Kite Fly Festival on May 31
The ninth annual Naperville Park District Kite Fly Festival offers kite-flying lessons, demonstrations and an invitation to fly kites over the Frontier Sports Complex.
The festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at Frontier Sports Complex, 3380 Cedar Glade Drive, behind Neuqua Valley High School, just south of 95th Street in Naperville.
All ages are welcome at the free event that offers learn-to-fly lessons and demonstrations of unusual kites of all sizes by Chicago Kite. Participants also can bring their own kites and fly them at the wide-open Frontier Sports Complex, where summer breezes can send kites soaring.
Food trucks at the event may include Aurelio's Pizza, Kona Ice treats, Indian cuisine from OMango, and TCBY. Continuing a favorite tradition, candy drops will occur multiple times throughout the day.
The Neptune fire truck, which carried first responders from Neptune, New Jersey, to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, will be present. Neptune was donated by the Terry Farrell Foundation to the Bike Bald organization in support of pediatric cancer research and awareness.
An entertainment stage will feature musical shows by School of Rock, the Neuqua Valley High School Steel Band, singer/guitarist Andrew Huber, Élan Dance Company and Bloody Mary. The entertainment schedule is as follows:
10 to 11 a.m. - Naperville School of Rock
11 to 11:30 a.m. - Élan Dance Company
11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. - Andrew Huber
12:45 to 2 p.m. - Neuqua Valley High School Steel Band
2:15 to 3:30 p.m. - Bloody Mary
A face painter will be on site between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Children can enjoy unlimited play in the inflatable area for $5.
