Learn about DuPage's seasonal feathered friends

Area residents can celebrate the seasonal influx of birds at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's International Migratory Bird Day.

"This free program is a wonderful way to learn more about the many birds that flock to the region at this time of year," Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President Joe Cantore said.

International Migratory Bird Day events run 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 16, at Willowbrook Wildlife Center, 525 S. Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn. Activities for kids and adults throughout the morning include:

• Bird Walk for Adults, 8 to 9:30 a.m. Search for feathered jewels on a naturalist-led hike during the peak of warbler migration. Ages 12 and older; those younger than 18 must be with an adult.

• Bird Walk for Beginners, 9 to 10:30 a.m. Learn the basics of bird-watching and identification in Willowbrook's Back 40 nature area. Ages 12 and older; those younger than 18 must be with an adult.

• Bird-Banding Demonstration, 9 to 11 a.m. See how ecologists band birds and how banding helps scientists worldwide. Ages 12 and older; those younger than 18 must be with an adult.

• Family Bird Walk, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Learn bird-watching tips during a naturalist-led walk. Ages 8 and older; those younger than 18 must be with an adult.
