Palatine, Wheeling win in BG sectional

Senior Ryan Schlaiss scored 5 goals and drew five kick-outs, and sophomore T.J. May had 3 goals to help Palatine advance in the Buffalo Grove boys water polo sectional with a 14-4 victory over visiting Vernon Hills on Tuesday.

Patrick Pranicka scored all 4 goals for the Cougars (1-19).

Palatine (7-24) advances to a 4:30 p.m. Thursday matchup against top seed Stevenson (23-6) at BG.

• MSL East champion Wheeling (15-13) rolled past Deerfield 20-6 to earn a date against Lake Forest in the 8:15 p.m. slot Thursday at Buffalo Grove.

• Highland Park (8-12) moved on in the Buffalo Grove sectional by topping the Bison 9-5. The Giants will play Mundelein in the 7 p.m. game Thursday at BG.

• Maine West topped Central Suburban League rival Maine East 10-8 to gain a spot in Thursday's Glenbrook North sectional quarterfinals. Next up for the Warriors (14-10) is a contest against the sectional's top seed, Loyola (20-10), at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

• Hersey won its play-in game against Rolling Meadows 13-2 to gain a spot in the Schaumburg sectional quarterfinals.

Jake Hall led the way with 6 goals for the the Huskies (13-14), who will meet No. 2 seed Conant in the 7 p.m. game on Thursday at Schaumburg.

• Elk Grove defeated Hoffman Estates 15-11 to earn an appearance against top seed Barrington (26-2) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
