Why no mention of black film?

I attended a glorious event in Elgin on April 26. It was the premiere of the film: "2-3-1: Two Boxcars, Three Streets, One City" held in Blizzard Auditorium of ECC. The room was packed. The spirit was joyful. It was an important event for the citizens of Elgin.

When I opened my Daily Herald the following day, there was no mention of the event. Again, on the next day - no mention. The headlines for both days told of the violence in Baltimore.

As a white person, I wonder. What does it take for a black person to make the headlines? Does the 153 year history of blacks in Elgin and the life of Ernie Broadnax bear mentioning? Or is it only the violent stories of blacks that are worthy of the news?

The violence and misunderstanding between races will continue until we can hear all the stories and begin to listen to all the voices of our citizens.
