Sox rookie Rodon gets win in first major-league start
The kid is all right.
Making his first major-league start Saturday night in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Reds at U.S. Cellular Field, Carlos Rodon overcame some early jitters and earned the win.
The White Sox lost Game 1 of the interleague doubleheader, 10-4. Behind Rodon, a 2-run homer from Alexei Ramirez and solo shots from Avisail Garcia and Gordon Beckham, the Sox were 8-2 winners in Game 2.
After coming up from Class AAA Charlotte on April 20, Rodon made 3 appearances out of the bullpen before making a spot start Saturday.
The rookie left-hander walked the first two hitters he faced, Billy Hamilton and Marlon Byrd, but Rodon settled down and was impressive.
The 22-year-old pitcher worked 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. Rodon also had 8 strikeouts.
