Smart Farm of Barrington Set for Spring Vegetable Plant Sale

Smart Farm will hold their annual vegetable seedling sale on Saturday, May 16, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at their hoop house located on the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital Campus, 450 W. Hwy. 22, Barrington.

Seedlings will include fourteen types of heirloom tomatoes, eleven varieties of peppers, eggplant, squash, kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, Swiss chard, lettuce bowls, and many specialty herbs. All plants are 100% organic, non-GMO, and locally grown.

Funds from the plant sale will assist Smart Farm in its mission to educate our community about the benefits of sustainable gardening and healthy eating and to help support Smart Farm in its efforts to raise fresh produce for our neighbors in need. During the 2014 growing season, Smart Farm donated over 7,500 pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries. Smart Farm has recently established eleven bee hives and will begin donating honey to the pantries as well.
