Free vessel checks of recreational watercraft May 23

As part of the Forest Preserve Safety Month and Safe Boating Week, the Forest Preserve District of Kane County will host the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at Oakhurst Forest Preserve, 1680 Fifth Ave., Aurora.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary will have information and provide free vessel safety checks from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 23.

You may trailer your boat to the location. Boats do not have to be in the water. Kayaks and canoes also will be inspected. Boats that pass will be issued a Coast Guard inspection sticker.

The event will feature giveaways, demonstrations and more.
